I really love looking through photography books and have a wide selection at home that I have bought over the years. As I really want to produce some kind of book for degree show made up of my street portraits I felt I should take inspiration from just a few of the photographers that really inspire me as well as looking at books that I have at home that are similar to the work I produce.
Dewi Lewis publishers in London publish quite a few photographers work to include Martin Parr and Dougie Wallace. I had a good look over their site – images to the bottom of page.
Photographer Brandon Stanton really gets up close and personal with his subjects and almost interviews them. His front covers are busy.
I love the simplicity of this front cover and lack of portrait more location.
Very different front covers but both use portraits to draw the reader into their book.
Boogie produces hard hitting images and these are displayed on books he has helped with photography for. Marin Parr is simplistic front cover with his trademark colour pop.
Again i realise that book front covers can be simplistic, just the title and name such as Gildens or more in-depth like his Haiti.
Diane Arbus with her trademark freaks – again to draw the viewer in for more.

It was Photographer Paul Harts books entitled Farmed that i really liked, i think because my work is all square format and I really like the text above and the image placement – I decided this layout would work really nicely for my book.
Id like it white with a colour image though.
I bought SELF PUBLISH BE HAPPY by Bruno Ceschel as it gives a great understanding into self publishing and also other photography books and magazines.
