We have been given a number of options for our graduation show, one being Stockport Art gallery which we all really wanted to do and one being Leaf in Manchester which would be central location in the city and with the rest of the art department so a really good opportunity.
We were advised that we would need to raise £250 as photography contribution to the cost of the exhibition. We also discussed with Lecturer Theo a name for our show and for all of us to take on some sort of role in the planning and execution of the two exhibitions. We decided on the name ‘overture’ a musical word meaning an introduction to something more substantial – we felt this sat well with us being students and entering into the new phase in our careers.
I wanted to task myself with raising the much needed funds for the shows. I felt crowd funding would be a really quick yet efficient way of raising funds from people who are interested in what we are doing. I set up a crowd funding page on Facebook and within 1 week we have raised £320.00 towards our show. It was extremely beneficial and supported well by family and friends that may have been more difficult to obtain such funds from normally.
I will also be sending speaking to local businesses to obtain sponsorship for the event which will go towards cost of a printed catalogue.
